WalkSafe Program and International Walk To School Day in the USA

Next week, October 4th- 6th, our students will be participating in the WalkSafe Program.  Day 1 - students will view a video and participate in class discussions.  Day 2- students will participate in an outside street-crossing simulation activity( which will take place on the P.E. court) and review discussion.  Day 3- students will design a "WalkSafe" poster.
International Walk To School Day in the USA is Wednesday, October 6th.  We are encouraging parents to walk to school that day with their child.  This would be a great opportunity to review safety practices with your child and also a great way to EXERCISE! :)

2010-2011 Physical Education Update

Hope everyone had a restful but yet exercise filled summer!  We are very busy working on the students physical fitness!  We are currently working on the Fitnessgram Pre-test.   This test is used to assess the students fitness level at this point in the year.  The data is then used to help us focus on the areas of weakness to improve the students fitness levels.  A Post-test will be administered in March.

Our Jump Rope and Running Team programs began this week.  These clubs are open to all 3rd - 5th grade students.  Jump Rope meets Monday mornings from 8:00-8:35 and Running meets Tuesday mornings from 8:00-8:35.

Howard Drive Elementary has been designated a "Healthy School" !  Info will be forth coming!  Remember to eat the right foods, exercise regularly and get plenty of rest!
